To start with, we created an e-mail invitation saying "Why is this night different from all other night?" And when you opened it up you saw a picture of a gorilla munching matzah, and the caption said "Because you never know whom you might meet for the aphikomen scavenger hunt. I have stocked up on goofy prizes ranging from tambourines to bubbles to gardening gloves ( a sign of hope and spring)

My son, 15, has been assigned the task of designing the hunt which will be for adults and kids to close the night down. During the Seder we have a Passover trivia game we play, random questions we ask to keep people alert and engaged....and those who answer will be punished with prizes, as will those who ask questions. A friend is doing a wee skit of the Exodus. My husband is editing a Power Point about the science of the parting of the sea, and my cousin's son will be singing, via video, one of the Seder songs from Israel to give us a musical boost. Cups for children will be filled with candy. A stranger has been invited whom we will welcome into our home to make that mitzvah real.... and fun! and prior to the seder we launch our International Charoses Party Sunday afternoon where guests who want to help prepare the feast come into our home and we feed them some chometz-filled bagels!

This year's Passover will be very different for me because for the first time in over 20 years, we've been invited to Seders for both nights. I'm still bringing soup with matah balls, homemade gefilte fish loaf, and, of course, desserts.
When my husband and I host seders, we start with a statement from me saying that Not only does my husband allow me to clean for the seder, cook for the seder, but he also allows me to lead the seder!

This Passover will be different, particularly for my husband because his father (last remaining parent) passed away last month. That means that for the first time, my husband will be leading the seder & will not have someone to whom he can ask the questions. But fortunately our son will be there (26 years old) to ask them of his father!

My doppleganger is the prototypical Jewish mother. She loves her children and worries about them, she cooks, she saves, she sacrifices for her family. She is beloved but misunderstood and she's in all our Jewish DNA.
